This division has initiated the development of a Countywide Master Stormwater Plan / watershed Management Plan. This effort will include alternative conceptual Capital Improvement Programs (CIP) to address the more urgent reoccurring drainage issues throughout the County and will also serve to provide water quality enhancements to improve the surface waters in Highlands County.
Staff are focused on compliance with the National Flood Insurance Program and Community Rating System for increasing flood insurance discounts and community education regarding the need for flood insurance and for flood risk reduction.
Through the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) program, the County has engaged in public education efforts aimed at preventing stormwater pollution in the process construction and industrial sites inspections.
