Highlands County road projects

The following road projects are underway or planned in Highlands County.

Bayview Street, Sebring

Highlands County Traffic Operations will close westbound Bayview Street in Sebring daily from Lakeview Drive to U.S. 27 beginning Monday, Nov. 9, while Highlands County Road & Bridge crews perform road work. The project is expected to last approximately two weeks.

PROJECT TIMELINE
Work begins Nov. 9 and roadwork is expected to be complete by the end of November 2026.

What to expect:
• Westbound lanes of Bayview Street in Sebring from U.S. 27 to Lakeview Drive are closed from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily.
• Westbound traffic is expected to reopen each day around 4:30 p.m.
• Eastbound lanes of Bayview Street will remain.

Detours
• Sandra Boulevard to Sebring Parkway
• Vicki Drive to U.S. 27

Staff will be present at the Lakeview Drive end of the closure to help direct motorists toward detours.
Motorists should plan ahead, allow extra travel time and follow posted detour directions while work is underway.

Ben Eastman Road, Sebring

Ben Eastman Road Northern Portion Under Construction and closure

The northern portion of Ben Eastman Road in Sebring that runs between the Sebring Parkway and Panther Parkway is closed. Highlands County Engineering, in coordination with Hickey Excavation Inc. will be constructing a paved roadway and putting in a sidewalk on the closed portion of Ben Eastman Road.

PROJECT TIMELINE
Roadwork is expected to continue through mid-December 2026.

What to expect:
• The portion of Ben Eastman Road between Sebring Parkway and Panther Parkway is closed
• Detour and roadwork signs throughout the area

Detours:
• Traffic on Ben Eastman Road south of Sebring Parkway must turn left or right onto Sebring Parkway
• Traffic on Panther Parkway must continue to the roundabout and follow the detour signs
• Eastbound traffic on Sebring Parkway must continue to the roundabout and follow the detour signs

If you travel through this area, allow extra travel time and consider using an alternate route when possible.

Washington Boulevard NW Road, Lake Placid
Placid Lakes Road Closures - Copy - Copy - Copy

Washington Boulervard NW in the Placid Lakes area of Lake Placid, from Catfish Creek Road to Star Fruit Avenue, will be widened from 20 feet to 24 feet.
Highlands County Road & Bridge, in coordination with contractors, will perform construction activities along this stretch of road. Work will include widening, milling, resurfacing, driveway replacement, drainage repairs and culvert installation.
Construction will begin in the area between Catfish Creek Road and Carey Avenue NW. The next segment of construction will be between Carey Avenue NW and Star Fruit Avenue.

Project Timeline
Roadwork is expected to begin Oct. 1, 2026, and be completed by the end of January 2027.

What to Expect
• Temporary lane closures as crews work on different sections of the road.
• Detour and roadwork signs throughout the project area.
• Traffic patterns and detours may change as work moves from one section of the road to another.

Detours
Expect detour routes to change as the project progresses.

If you travel through the area, follow posted detour signs and allow extra time to reach your destination.
Drivers should use alternate routes when possible and pay attention to signs as they approach each active work area.

North Highlands Boulevard, Avon Park

North Highlands Boulevard in Avon Park will have temporary lane closures as Highlands County Road & Bridge crews will be making road repairs.

PROJECT TIMELINE
Repairs are expected to start on Monday, Sept. 28 and be completed by Oct. 1, weather permitting.
Crews will work between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. each day.

What to expect:
•Various sections of roadway will have temporary lane closures during the project.
•Signs will be posted, and flagmen will be present to assist with traffic flow.    

Detours:
Motorists should expect delays and consider alternate routes if possible.
