Highlands County road projects
The following is a list of road projects underway or planned in Highlands County:
Ben Eastman Road
The northern portion of Ben Eastman Road in Sebring that runs between the Sebring Parkway and Panther Parkway is closed. Highlands County Engineering, in coordination with Hickey Excavation Inc. will be constructing a paved roadway and putting in a sidewalk on the closed portion of Ben Eastman Road.
PROJECT TIMELINE
Roadwork is expected to continue through mid-December 2026.
What to expect:
• The portion of Ben Eastman Road between Sebring Parkway and Panther Parkway is closed
• Detour and roadwork signs throughout the area
Detours:
• Traffic on Ben Eastman Road south of Sebring Parkway must turn left or right onto Sebring Parkway
• Traffic on Panther Parkway must continue to the roundabout and follow the detour signs
• Eastbound traffic on Sebring Parkway must continue to the roundabout and follow the detour signs
If you travel through this area, allow extra travel time and consider using an alternate route when possible.

Washington Blvd NW Road
Washington Blvd NW in the Placid Lakes area of Lake Placid, from Catfish Creek Rd to Star Fruit Ave, will be widened from 20 feet to 24 feet.
Highlands County Road & Bridge, in coordination with contractors, will perform construction activities along this stretch of road. Work will include widening, milling, resurfacing, driveway replacement, drainage repairs and culvert installation.
Construction will begin in the area between Catfish Creek Rd and Carey Ave NW. The next segment of construction will be between Carey Ave NW and Star Fruit Ave.
Project Timeline
Roadwork is expected to begin Oct. 1 and be completed by the end of January.
What to Expect
• Temporary lane closures as crews work on different sections of the road.
• Detour and roadwork signs throughout the project area.
• Traffic patterns and detours may change as work moves from one section of the road to another.
Detours
Expect detour routes to change as the project progresses.
If you travel through the area, follow posted detour signs and allow extra time to reach your destination.
Drivers should use alternate routes when possible and pay attention to signs as they approach each active work area.
